Kurt Schmidt

As the Production Manager, Kurt leads the Production Engineers and works together with the Workshop Manager to ensure quality components are manufactured and delivered on time. Kurt first joined Zenith Tecnica in 2018 as a master’s student, then after being employed as a full-time Additive Manufacturing Engineer he progressed to Production Lead, and now Production Manager.  Kurt holds a Master of Engineering degree with first class honours from AUT University and is one of a few people in Australasia to have been trained by GE Additive in their EBM Material Development level 3 program. Kurt specialises in additive manufactured surfaces and failure mechanics. His work on adhesive bonding is published in Additive Manufacturing Letters and can be read here.

During his time as an Additive Manufacturing Engineer, Kurt had a specific focus on process validation and continuous improvement and many of the controls and processes used today at Zenith resulted from his investigations into controlling operating parameters.

Having graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Mechanical) in 2013, Kurt has spent a decade working across many industries from designing and manufacturing large hydraulic systems, developing mobile phone applications, and offering freelance engineering design services. Having this diverse engineering background helps Kurt to collaborate with customers to find unique solutions to even the most complex of design problems.

Outside of work Kurt enjoys spending time with his wife and son, rock climbing, surfing, running, and writing music.
